Cancer types & treatment
Cancer is a general term used to describe the group of diseases where cells grow in an uncontrolled and purposeless way inside the body.
Cancer isn’t just one disease – there are over two hundred types of cancer.
Many cancers can be cured, others can be controlled and symptoms can be relieved by modern treatment.
The information in this section is arranged by cancer type. Some pages provide in depth information about treatment. Others may be a broad summary with links to further information. They are usually based on resources produced by Cancer Council South Australia, but some are the best available resource from another source. Go to the Online library to download our resources. Find out about cancer treatments, including clinical trials and complementary therapies. See also coping with cancer on this site. Need more? Try links to other Australian Cancer Councils or international cancer organisations.
