New regional campaign
The Cancer Council SA has launched an in memoriam television campaign in regional South Australia aimed at leaving a lasting legacy for those that have passed away. The Cancer Council chief executive Associate Professor Brenda Wilson said people were encouraged to make a donation rather than provide flowers at funerals. “By making a donation people can make a lasting difference in memory of those that have died,” she said. Money raised through the in memoriam campaign will go towards cancer research, education and support services in South Australia. “The death of a loved one is a very tragic experience. In memoriam donations provide one small avenue to keep the memory of someone alive and allow for a glimmer of hope to be born out of such sadness,” Associate Professor Wilson said. Associate Professor Wilson said 23 people were diagnosed with cancer in South Australia each day. “Many of those people require the latest in medical science to treat their disease and they and their families often seek support through The Cancer Council,” she said. “Through raising funds for cancer research we can hopefully one day make cancer a thing of the past. In the meantime The Cancer Council will be here – with your help – to continue to fund research and provide support. “We are particularly committed to supporting regional South Australians by providing low cost accommodation and transport to and from medical appointments. “In addition, we provide information and counselling through The Cancer Council Helpline. We also support people through the Cancer Connect program where those going through cancer are put in contact with people who have been through a similar experience.” Associate Professor Brenda Wilson said in memoriam donating was growing in prominence in metropolitan SA and the regional campaign would raise awareness about the opportunity to make a difference in memory of friends and family.
