Race 4 Life to help beat breast cancer

The River Torrens will again become to a sea of Pink on 1 November, as almost 2,000 South Australians unite in the fight against breast cancer in the annual Race 4 Life.

The Pink Ribbon event will start from Elder Park on 1 November, with runners (and walkers) participating in a 4.5 km or 10 km fun run or walk.

Cancer Council SA Chief Executive, Professor Brenda Wilson, said Race 4 Life was an excellent way to get involved in the fight against breast cancer.

“Over 1,000 South Australian women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and one in nine women will be diagnosed with the disease by the age of 85.”

“Race 4 Life provides an opportunity for everyone from serious runners and joggers to walkers, to invest in their own health while making a difference to the lives of those with breast cancer,” said Professor Wilson.

Cancer Council SA hopes to raise more than $70,000 from the event, to be invested in breast cancer research, education and support services.

The event begins at the Elder Park rotunda with a warm-up at 7.30 am. The 10 km runners depart at 8.00 am followed by the 4.5 km runners at 8.20 am and the walkers at 8.30 am.

Last year, over 1,400 participants hit the track for the event and raised almost $45,000 for the cause.

The event is organised by the South Australian Road Runners Club (SARRC) on behalf of Cancer Council SA. Entry costs are $20.00 for adults and $15 for students and concession. Children under 12 get free entry.

Entry forms are available from the SARRC by calling 8232 7644 or via www.sarrc.asn.au.

Late entries will be taken on the day from 7 am at the registration desk.
