Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund
"... fighting the battle against leukaemia (in memory of the Australian Olympic cyclist, Peter Nelson)."Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, The Lithgow Flash The Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund was established through the efforts of Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AC, CVO, MBE. They called her the Lithgow Flash, the fastest woman in the world. In her brief but glorious career as world champion, she brought nine gold medals home for Australia.
In 1975 Peter was struck down with leukaemia and after a very short time it took his life. Marjorie emerged from retirement to raise money for research in a battle to beat the disease. Marjorie enlisted the aid of Rotary to establish the fund and has tirelessly worked for it ever since. About Leukaemia Leukaemia is a disease of the blood forming organs. It is regarded as a form of cancer because it causes cells in the two most important blood-forming organs, the bone marrow and lymph glands, to grow in an uncontrolled way. Eventually this uncontrolled growth affects the blood itself. The cause of leukaemia, like that of many other forms of cancer is still not clearly known. Modern forms of treatment are producing remissions, i.e. return to normal life. Approximately 70-90% of patients, depending on the type of leukaemia, achieve remission and a significant number are actually cured and do not have any relapse of the leukaemia at a later date. The aim of the fund
The Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fun was setup to support researchers in an accredited research department to undertake research into luekaemia, with the goal of finding a cure for this strain of cancer. Read the latest research report

Marjorie Jackson-Nelson's personal time and efforts have raised the majority of funds so far, with the generous support of Rotary and other groups, companies and individuals who respond to the calls for help. More money means more research and ideally an earlier end to the disease. Your help can bring this about and hasten the day when leukaemia joins the list of once-fatal diseases that medical science has conquered. How you can help
